Christmas Quilts with 12-inch Quilt Blocks from Pieced Brain

Christmas Quilts with 12-inch Quilt Blocks

Make quick Christmas Quilts with 12-inch Quilt Blocks that you forgot you had! Simple layouts translate into fast gifts or holiday decor.

Last Saturday, after writing a pattern I decided I wanted to spend the rest of the day sewing. I actually wanted to see if I could make a quilt with some test blocks I had. You know that when I test blocks I try to use similar fabrics for many of them so, down the line, I can just put them together into a quilt. That was my mood that day.

The quilt above was the first one ...

Oh Scrap! : More Stars from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have been making good progress on all of my current scrap quilts, but I thought I would share with you today my pink star blocks.

Last week I shared how I started making these pink and gray stars from some scraps I thought looked great together.

From the scraps I had, I was able to cut enough bits to make a total of nine blocks - three blocks of each pink print.  I have been slowly sewing them together this week.  Sorry about the nighttime photos (it is when I sew) but you can see the plaid really overpowers the ...

Sometimes Quilts Start Themselves from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I finished my red scrap blocks so I moved onto my pink color bin.  I am trying to just use my smaller scraps to clean them out of my scrap bins.  So it takes a lot of sorting to find just the right size.

As I was pulling out all the larger chunks of scraps, I saw all these pink and black scraps.  And instantly thought.....Hmmm, I might be able to do something with those!

So I grabbed some Shadow Gray solid and soon had a star block.

I am not sure how many blocks I will be able ...

Sealink Starr OP 6, 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

I love the first design for today.

The blocks shine, and so does the quilting.

Love the second one too, for the same reasons I love the first one.

The last design is interesting, but one of the first two is the winner for today. You can choose which one.

Vivienne’s Star Quilt 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

Love it, love it, love it!

A bit too busy, but I do like it, but it is not my favourite for today.

I have just noticed that i have used Mum’s favourite colour, purple, Dad’s favourite green, and Viv rather liked pink when she was little. The combination is one of my favourite combinations.

Jinny Beyer is my favourite quilter, and her use of colour is wonderful.

Star for Selina 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

The Star for Selina block is in full colour in the centre of the design above, and all the other blocks are the same block designs with some pieces left out. Look closely and you can see where the seam lines should be … I would use those lines as quilting lines.

I like stars on a dark background … after all, we cannot see stars during the day when the sun is shining.

Ratification Stars from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Recently, I watched the 4 hour American Experience documentary "The Vote".  I realized I had forgotten so much about the struggle women endured for generations to obtain my right to vote.  I highly recommend the show.    Here is what is said about the show:

One hundred years after the passage of the 19th Amendment, The Vote tells the dramatic culmination story of the hard-fought campaign waged by American women for the right to vote — a transformative cultural and political movement that resulted in the largest expansion of voting rights in U.S. history.

In its final decade, from 1909 to ...
